When I first started in this industry, I did what most estheticians do: I looked at what everyone else was charging, priced myself slightly lower to attract clients, and offered a menu with twenty different facial options. I worked long hours, accommodated every request, and constantly worried about whether clients would rebook.
It took years to realize that this model is a fast track to burnout. Building a premium practice requires a fundamental shift in how you view your work, your value, and your relationship with your clients.
The Problem with the Traditional Menu
A massive service menu forces the client to diagnose themselves. They look at a list of treatments—a vitamin C facial, a hydrating facial, an anti-aging facial—and guess what they need. But they are not the expert; you are.
When you shift to a clinical, results-driven model, the menu simplifies. You stop selling "facials" and start selling outcomes. My clients do not tell me what treatment they want; they tell me their concerns, and I determine the clinical pathway to address them.
Pricing for Value, Not Time
Undercharging is an epidemic in the esthetics industry. We often price based on the hour, rather than the expertise, the continuing education, the quality of the products, and the transformation we provide.
A premium practice requires premium pricing. This is not about exclusivity for the sake of it; it is about creating a sustainable business that allows you to invest in the best tools, take the time to truly assess each client, and show up fully present for every appointment.
The Mindset Shift
The most difficult part of building a premium practice is not the marketing or the clinical skills—it is the mindset. It requires the confidence to set boundaries, to require consultations for new clients, and to turn away people who are not a good fit for your approach.
When you step into your authority as a clinical expert, everything changes. You attract clients who respect your knowledge, commit to the process, and value the results you deliver.
